Specialization

A Human Being should be able to change a diaper,
plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship,
design a building,
write a sonnet, balance accounts,
build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying,
take orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations,
analyze a new problem, pitch manure,
program a computer, cook a tasty meal,
fight efficiently, and die gallantly.

Specialization is for insects!

  1. So Chris, do you advocate that all people should be a Generalist?

  2. I think all people, even so called specialists, are capable of more than their primary specialty. Often, we limit ourselves or are unnecessarily bound by others with labels and narrow expectations. I've always advocated that there's more to people than their obvious labels--this is particularly true of perceived specialists.

Want proof? Just start a conversation on a topic that is outside their specialty. ;-)
